Creative Writing
Cost: $120/semester
Class Description:
This class seeks to awaken and encourage the creativity in each student, as well as hone their writing skills. Each week, students will be given a new creative writing assignment, and as the year progresses, they will learn how to communicate their ideas in new and effective ways.
Each assignment will be about 1-2 pages in length, although we may have a couple longer ones that we work on over the course of a couple weeks. The challenge of this class will be less about lengthy papers, and more about learning to express oneself in effective, new and creative ways. The students’ collective work will culminate in a literary magazine, published and written by the students.
As an English major with a writing track, Lauren Andrews has plenty of experience in writing of all types, but enjoyed creative writing most of all! Her hope is that students will grow in their love of writing in her class, and discover previously untapped creativity within themselves!
This class will be two semesters long and new students can join for the second semester.
This class is eligible for high school credit.
Grades: 7th-12th (teacher will consider mature 6th graders)
Instructors: Lauren Andrews
Time: 10:00-10:50am
Required materials: pen/pencils and notebook or journal
